We thank you for your ongoing commitment to our students and teachers!
Thank you for your interest in driving for Midway Independent School District. Our bus drivers are vitally important to our schools. Bus drivers are the first smiling face our students see each morning and provide dependable safe routes to school. We can't teach students if they can't get to school!
Part-time hours allow a flexible lifestyle so you can work half days, full days, have a lengthy midday break, or even drive on trips in evening and weekends.
A CDL is required for driving a school bus. Click here to more about obtaining your CDL in Texas. Midway ISD can assist in training and renewals.
Driving a bus for Midway ISD is a great job, but it all starts with the application process. Since you are already on our website, all you need to do is click on the Big M in the upper left hand corner of the browser page and that will take you back to the Homepage. Once you are on the Homepage you will see multiple choices in white with a blue background, go all the way to the right and you will see the Employment tab, place your mouse over this tab and a menu will drop down with some more choices for you. Select “View Current Openings” by clicking your mouse on the words and our job openings will come up for you. In the top left box that says “Search Jobs” type in “BuPs Driver” and you will see the ad for our bus driver opening appear. On the right hand side of the page you can read about the job details, the job description, the job requirements and contact information. If you think this job is for you, then click on the blue button back at the top top of the page that says “apply for this job”.
At this point you will enter your email address and then continue the process. It would be helpful if you had a resume or some kind of job history with where you worked in the past and the dates that you worked there and why you left your former places of employment. There is also a place for references, this is not a place to put your mom and dad or best friend, this needs to be a professional reference, someone you have worked for in the past, someone who can tell us about your work experience and ethic.
The next question is what happens once the resume is submitted. MISD HR takes all the resumes and processes them and makes them available to the hiring managers of each department. We in turn will review them to see if we feel they are a fit for our department, then we call you to set up an interview here at the MISD Department of Transportation. If the interview goes well and we both (you and our administrative team) agree that you will be a good fit, we send your resume back to HR and let them process your application some more and then they will call you back to get the ball rolling. Once HR contacts you through email, they will let you know about salary, fingerprinting, start date and everything else you will need to do before your first day of work.
The short answer is yes. We not only train you, we will pay you while we are training you to get your CDL. Getting your CLass B CDL is a lot harder than it was in the past. To get your CLass B it takes roughly 160 hours of classroom, independent study time, and behind the wheel training to accomplish.
So, what is involved in getting your Class B CDL? The first thing you have to do is pass your written test, and there are 5 different tests you will have to take just to pass the written portion of the CDL test. This involves a lot of studying on your part in order to learn about the requirements that Texas has for air brakes, passengers, school buses and so much more, so we will pay you while you study. Now that’s a great deal! We will give you 2 weeks to study the material and pass all 5 tests and then move on to the next part of your training.
Once you have passed your written test and have obtained your CLP (Commercial Learner's Permit), we can start training you one-on-one. This consists of classroom training, video training, range training and on the road the road training. Over the course of the next 2 weeks we will spend 80 hours working with you, getting you ready to pass the driving part of the CDL test. We have worked hard at MISD Transportation to provide a comprehensive training program that will prepare you not only to take the test, but also to prepare for the first day you step on the bus and take over your new route.
MISD offers one of the highest hourly wages in the area and on top of the money we have the best environment to work in. You will not find a better group of drivers and administrators to work with anywhere in Central Texas. We are one of the only school districts that annualize our drivers pay, which means that your pay is divided up so that you are paid on holidays, Spring Break, Christmas Break and over the Summer. Your paycheck will be the same every two weeks as long as you show up to work and put in the hours. Our drivers also qualify for benefits in our district, which is a huge plus for you as a driver. So, between the paid training, the pay, benefits and the work environment, MISD Transportation is a great place for you to work and find your place to grow.
