Midway Campuses Come Together for 100th Day of School Fundraiser

This year, on the 100th day of school, all of Midway ISD's 11 campuses will work together to raise funds to support Hunger Free MISD.

Each campus is advertising the 100th day of school as an opportunity to give to Hunger Free, a district-run program that sends bags of food home with food-insecure students over weekends and holiday breaks.

“Our Hunger Free program is fully funded by donations from our community,” Midway ISD Coordinator for Student Support Services Anne-Marie Zellers said. “Hunger Free is a way to give back that stays within our district and has a direct impact on our students and families.”

This will be the first year Midway has done a district-wide fundraiser on the 100th day of school.

“Our campuses are being really creative in the ways they collect those funds,” Zeller said. “I think any time kids can see that they're doing something to benefit their classmates, there's just so much more involvement. It sends a message that we really are all about supporting each other—that we take care of our friends; we take care of our neighbors.”

Donations from the fundraiser will go toward helping Hunger Free MISD fund 350 bags of food distributed to Midway families each week.

“We just went through the holidays where we gave out over 250 boxes of food for our families, then we did an order of food for our weekly bags,” Zellers said. “It's time to replenish our account so we can get through the spring semester. We would love to raise enough money to help us start the year and place that first food order when we get back in August.”
