Midway ISD Communications Team Wins Gold in Statewide Awards

Each year, the Texas School Public Relations Association honors outstanding contributions to education communications through the statewide Star Awards.

Communications team holds certificates.

The 2023 awards were recently announced at TSPRA’s annual conference in late February, and with a record-setting 1,850 total entries, every single submission from Midway ISD Communications earned a gold rating, indicating the highest quality for published work.

MISD Communications team members: Communications Systems Coordinator Robert Pryor, Multimedia Specialist Katy Durham, and former director Traci Marlin, were recognized for one of the top marketing campaigns in the state.

They received both a Best of Category and Gold Star Award for their work on the Superintendent Launch Campaign, which included a focus on transparent communication and community engagement. The MISD Communications team also won a Gold Star Award for the district’s first Staff Family Night event.

Robert Pryor received a Gold Star Award for the original design of the new district website, which was built without a template. The website was successfully launched last summer after extensive work with stakeholder focus groups as well as content creation and photography contributions by Katy Durham and Traci Marlin.

Only one other school district in the state scored as high as Midway ISD for their web presence.

Additionally, Katy Durham earned a Gold Star Award in the Published News and Feature category for her article celebrating Midway’s National Board Certified Teachers and the district’s internally-led cohort.
