Midway Student Ranks Among Top 15 in National Fashion Design Competition

Midway High School Career and Technical Education student Kalissa Davis advanced to compete at the FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) National Leadership Conference in July, placing among the top 15 students in the nation in the Fashion Construction category.

To compete in Fashion Construction, Kalissa sewed an entire outfit in advance, selecting a blue floral cotton fabric to design a matching top and pants set. She also created a marketing plan and presented her ensemble and strategic plan to a panel of judges.

On the way to earning a spot at nationals, Kalissa secured third place in the regional competition and second place at state.

"Kalissa now holds 15th place in the entire nation for the category of Fashion Construction," Midway High School FCCLA sponsor and CTE Teacher Katie Pruitt said. "Her representation of Midway would make anyone proud!"

About Midway High School Career and Technical Education:

Midway ISD offers elective courses in Career and Technical Education (CTE) at the middle school and high school campuses. CTE prepares students to be college and career ready by providing core academic skills, employability skills and technical, job-specific skills. All CTE courses have a corresponding CTSO, or Career and Technical Student Organization.

At Midway ISD, CTSOs are active in the community and competitive on both a state and national level. FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) is an active CTSO at Midway High School. The design of each CTSO is to extend the learning from the classroom to the real world so that students can make authentic connections when applying their knowledge and skills.
