Midway High School Journalists Receive State, National Awards

Midway High School journalism students were awarded for their photography and writing at the state and national levels this year.

In the National Federation of Press Women high school journalism contest, Heather Curtiss placed first in yearbook photography at state. Her photo advanced to the national competition where it earned honorable mention.

The following students were also awarded in the National Federation of Press Women competition: Cade Tullis won second place in Newspaper Sports Action Photo, and Sutton Lucien, Emma Walker, Heather Curtiss, Cat Settles, and Kat Peebles all earned third place in newspaper categories.

Lily Pelchat was awarded State Photo Editor of the Year by the Interscholastic League Press Conference (ILPC) committee. She was honored at the state convention in Austin, surpassing nominees from all schools (1A-6A) across Texas.

Three students also earned Individual Achievement Awards from ILPC and were honored as some of the top high school journalists in the state.

Heather Curtiss won third place in Yearbook, and Stacy Duong and Sutton Lucien won third place in Newspaper.
