April Board Briefs: Recognitions

During the April meeting of the Midway ISD Board of Trustees, students and staff were honored for their exceptional achievements and meaningful contributions that have positively impacted the district and its community.

National Merit Commended Scholar

Midway High School senior Ethan Peacock has been named a National Merit Commended Scholar, placing among the top 3% of students nationally on the PSAT/NMSQT. Ethan is the son of Dale and Miranda Peacock of Waco. He is an AP Scholar with Distinction, Eagle Scout, recipient of the FFA State Degree, and holds certifications as a Professional Horticulturist (FNGLA) and Nursery Professional (TNLA). He is active in FFA, Scouts BSA, and the Waco Youth Symphony Orchestra. Ethan plans to attend Texas Tech University, majoring in Ecology and Conservation.

Powerlifting State Participants

Midway ISD recognizes the achievements of three student-athletes who competed at the State Powerlifting Meet:

  • Andrew Bonner (181-pound weight class) placed 6th with a total of 1,585 lbs (Squat: 570 | Bench: 405 | Deadlift: 610). A senior, this was Bonner’s second state appearance; he placed 27th as a sophomore.
  • Trent Ingram (181-pound weight class) placed 25th with a total of 1,400 lbs (Squat: 570 | Bench: 350 | Deadlift: 480).
  • Bella Gentsch competed in the Women’s State Powerlifting and placed 9th with a total of 870 lbs (Squat: 345 | Bench: 165 | Deadlift: 360).

These students are coached by Hayden Wall and Gregory Garrett. Congratulations to these athletes for representing Midway ISD at the state level.

TEPSA Vice President

Hewitt Elementary Principal Christy Watley has been appointed to the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA) Executive Committee for the 2025-2026 school year. This leadership position is a significant honor and reflects her exemplary service and influence in Texas education. TEPSA represents more than 5,900 campus leaders across the state, and Executive Committee members help guide the association’s vision and advocacy efforts. Mrs. Watley’s appointment highlights Midway ISD’s continued commitment to leadership excellence at both the district and state levels.
