High School Choirs Earn Sweepstakes at UIL Concert and Sight-Reading

On Wednesday April 26, seven ensembles from the Midway High School Choir Department showcased their talent at the Region 8 North Zone UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation. A total of seven ensembles participated in the competition and earned top scores for their exceptional performances.

All seven ensembles received Superior ratings from three judges on the concert portion and superior or excellent ratings from three judges on the sight-reading portion. Six of the ensembles also received the Sweepstakes award, which is the highest honor of the competition.

Midway choirs competed at the Sub Non-Varsity, Non-Varsity, and the Varsity levels. Concert Treble Choir (above) received superior ratings in concert and excellent and superior ratings in sight-reading, and the following Midway choirs earned superior ratings across the board in both concert and sight-reading to receive Sweepstakes recognition:

Midway High School Choirs are under the direction of Jeff Rice, Jannifer Rice and Caleb Overstreet, accompanied by Maggie Stith. Private voice teachers are Julianne Best, Dr. David Guess, Tina Hays, Shawna Furman, and Kate Bishop.
