Midway High School Wind Ensemble, Soloist Receive National Awards

The Midway High School Wind Ensemble and a Midway soloist received national recognition in the 2024 Mark of Excellence Awards, presented by The Foundation for Music Education.

The Foundation for Music Education recognizes outstanding performance achievements by high school musicians through the Mark of Excellence contest.

Recordings of the 2024 Midway Wind Ensemble, including performances of ‘Esprit de Corps’ by Robert Jager and ‘The Frozen Cathedral’ by John Mackey, were submitted for evaluation in a nationwide audition process.  

Sophomore bass flute player Aiden Hyatt earned Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Honors as an Outstanding Soloist. His solo performance in ‘The Frozen Cathedral’ stood out to judges, placing him among a select group of nationally recognized individual musicians.

Additionally, the Midway High School Wind Ensemble, directed by Pam Hyatt, was selected as a Mark of Excellence Commended Winner from 450 entries across 40 states, and is one of 12 class 6A bands nationwide to receive this honor.
