In addition to earning the top rating for their performances, Madeleine Denman (vocal solo) and Glenn Eshelman (violin solo) were selected to receive the Outstanding Performer Award and were presented with gold UIL state champion medals—an honor roughly only 2% of all performers earn.

Ethan Christian, Midway High School class of 2024, was also recognized as an outstanding performer in the 2024 state contest for his vocal solo performance.

During the state contest, each musician performs their memorized solo for a judge who rates each instrument or voice part. Each judge can designate certain exceptional performances to receive the Outstanding Performer Award.

Madeline is a member of the Midway High School Choir directed by Jeff and Jannifer Rice and Caleb Overstreet. Glenn plays in the Midway High School Orchestra directed by Dr. Beau Benson.
