Midway High School Health and Hygiene Stations

By: Midway ISD Communications Intern

Midway High School is launching a new initiative to support students with better access to hygiene products across campus. The Health and Hygiene Stations will offer supplies such as soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, pads, tampons, deodorant, and other essentials that some students may lack access to at home.

This idea originated with MHS teacher Vanessa Dulock, who realized the need when several students confided about not having basic hygiene products. Dulock discovered that this challenge was more widespread among the student body than initially expected.

“We do all this stuff to help our own communities and other communities outside of our school,” Dulock shared. “Let’s do this to help our own kids right here in this building.”

The program aims to establish a Health and Hygiene Station in every hallway, ensuring easy, discreet access for any student—no questions asked. Students don’t need to qualify for access; the stations are open to all who need them.

To maintain the stations, students in Professional Communications classes will email brands to request product donations. This not only keeps the initiative running but also provides students an opportunity to apply classroom skills to a meaningful cause.

Community members are also encouraged to support the effort by donating hygiene products. Items can be dropped off at the front office for Vanessa Dulock.

“Many people, especially students, are afraid or unable to speak up and ask for help if they need it,” Dullock said. “Addressing their needs without them asking can make a world of difference for students who might rely on it.”
