During their January 21 meeting, the Midway Independent School District Board of Trustees formally charged the recently reconvened Facility Study Committee to review results from a districtwide facilities condition assessment and provide recommendations for future planning.
In the fall of 2024, Midway ISD engaged Pfluger Architects from Austin to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of facility conditions across the district. Early findings from the assessment underscore the need to engage the community in reviewing the results and determining the best path forward.
“The Facility Study Committee allows us to tap into the valuable perspectives of our community as we assess how to address immediate needs while preparing for the future,” said Dr. Chris Allen, Superintendent of Midway ISD. “This process ensures we remain thoughtful and collaborative in providing safe, modern, and effective spaces for our students and staff.”
The formal committee charge outlines the committee to focus on:
- Evaluating building safety and facility conditions in light of district growth and demographics.
- Considering educational programs, extracurricular needs, and other priorities like technology and transportation.
- Developing recommendations for maintaining fiscal responsibility while addressing short-term, intermediate, and long-term facility needs and capital and operational priorities.
Over the coming months, the committee will meet regularly to discuss findings, establish priorities, and develop recommendations. Their final report, expected in June 2025, will guide the district’s long-term planning and inform decisions on a potential bond election in November 2025.
“The findings from our facilities assessment make it clear that this work is necessary, and we are eager to involve our community in shaping the future of Midway ISD,” said Pete Rusek, Board President.
