Midway High School Softball concluded their 2023-2024 season with a remarkable performance at the state championship, securing the title of 6A State Runners-Up.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for the Pantherettes, who last competed for the state title in 2010 and finished the season as undefeated district champions with an impressive overall record of 34 wins and 6 losses.
Led by Coach Jordan Williams, the Pantherettes demonstrated exceptional skill and determination throughout the season, culminating in their third appearance in the state championship and first in Class 6A.
The team's journey to the championship game was highlighted by standout performances from several key players, including Kelsey Mathis, Lanee Brown, DaNia Durr, and Jayden Sadler, all of whom were named to the State All-Tournament Team.
Kelsey Mathis, in particular, stood out as the Super Centex Softball 2024 Player of the Year.
The senior center fielder showcased her talent with a remarkable .570 batting average, 77 hits, 72 runs scored, 23 doubles, 19 home runs, 69 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases from the leadoff spot, contributing significantly to the Pantherettes' success this season.
Another standout was senior Dania Durr, whose exceptional performance at third base earned her recognition as a formidable player on the field.
Durr, a Texas Southern signee, boasted a .440 batting average, 49 runs scored, 14 home runs, and 65 RBIs, solidifying her role in the team's journey to the state finals.
The entire Midway community celebrates the achievements of Coach Jordan Williams and the Pantherettes, whose dedication and teamwork have inspired fans and supporters alike.
As they reflect on a season filled with triumphs and challenges, the Pantherettes remain committed to building on their success in the seasons to come, setting their sights on future championships and continuing to uphold their legacy of excellence in high school softball.
